Sailing Away
Some drawings are loud.
This one is definitely not.
Sailing Away is about that quiet little moment when everything slows down and the only thing you can hear is the water moving around you.
Inspired by a photograph and my own fascination with the colour blue, this piece became a bit of an experiment in creating calm through colour.
The Cayman catboat carries the scene along while the water does most of the talking.
And yes, my sketchbook became a bit of an ocean of trial and error while I figured out how I wanted to bring all that water to life.
There may even have been a tiny nod to Picasso’s blue period hiding in there somewhere.
So if you need a moment away from the noise, consider this your invitation.
Take a breath.
Look a little longer.
And sail away for a minute.
