Known locally as the “upstairs house,” these elegant two-storey homes marked a new chapter in Cayman’s architectural history.
Inspired by the building that now houses the Cayman Islands National Museum, this illustration celebrates one of the island’s most enduring landmarks. Over the years, it has served as a courthouse, post office, government offices, and now a museum preserving the stories of Cayman itself.
Created as part of a series exploring the evolution of Cayman architecture, Upstairs House reflects the craftsmanship, resilience, and history that continue to shape the islands today.
