The Thatch Lady
Some pieces are comfortable.
Others make you step outside your comfort zone.
This was definitely the latter.
I don’t normally draw portraits, but this lovely lady — a beautiful reminder of our thatch heritage — had been sitting in my phone gallery for quite a while, waiting for me to be brave enough to try.
So I did.
I took my time, stepped away when my inner critic started getting a little too loud, and came back to it with fresh eyes.
And somewhere between the pencil marks and all the second-guessing, I realised I was really enjoying myself.
There is something special about seeing a piece of Cayman’s history reflected through the people who helped carry those traditions forward.
This one is a little outside my usual comfort zone.
And I’m rather glad I wandered there.
